There’s beauty in breaking

I'm Blair Briar, an indie dark romance author with a particular interest in characters who make terrible decisions for reasons that almost make sense.

I write about flawed people with pasts they can't outrun, relationships that refuse to fit neatly into right and wrong & the uncomfortable possibility that loving someone doesn't automatically make you good for them.

A Little About Me

I'm a debut author with an impressive talent for getting emotionally attached to fictional people and making their lives considerably worse.

When I'm not writing, there's a good chance I'm reading something equally questionable, obsessing over a plot detail nobody else will notice, or convincing myself that adding another chapter is a perfectly reasonable solution to a pacing problem.

Nearest Thing is my debut novel, and what started as one complicated relationship has become a much larger story about loyalty, control, trauma, and the uncomfortable places love can take people.

Why I Write the Dark Stuff

I've always been interested in the gap between understanding someone's behavior and excusing it. A character can have reasons for doing something terrible without those reasons making it okay, and I think some of the most interesting stories live in that distinction.

I like exploring what happens when people want something badly enough to justify hurting someone they care about, especially when they genuinely believe they're acting out of love.

My characters aren't always going to deserve your forgiveness. I'm much more interested in whether you understand how they got there.
